Britain a long time ago!

With us all getting older, this year's carnival theme of Britain Through The Ages provided a great opportunity to reminisce about the good old days.

Britain not so long ago !!.

It might have been a wet and miserable day, but there was still great colour as the various floats gathered on Parc Y Fro. With each float having spent many hours researching this year's theme, resulting in a whistle stop tour of Britain in recent and not so recent times. Varying from the Stone Age to Modern Britain there was no lack of imagination being shown.

As always the costumes and float design is a very secretive affair. In recent years , the Terrace have always set the standard, and again this year, they were going to be hard to beat. I'm sure their preparation is a never ending task, a bit like painting the Forth Railway Bridge !!!.

Judging the winners was again going to be difficult and this year that unenviable task was done by former Carnival Chairman, Gareth Williams. Despite some great entrants The 1 stCreigiau Rainbows were declared as worth winners with the Terrace and Station Road joint second.

With the judging over , the procession , led by another piece of history, a vintage Bedford Fire Engine, made its way along the traditional route to the Recreation Field where Lord Mayor Bowen officially declared the Carnival open.

Fair play to the carnival committee for again providing a wide range of stalls. As well as the old favourites, this year saw the introduction of some new ones including the , 'Throw the Ball into Brian Moore's Mouth' which proved a great hit.

New T-Shirts for the carnival committee.

Speaking of the committee, it has to be said that although they normally look like an advert for 'Britain Through The Ages' themselves, this year they did look rather fetching in their new Carnival shirts.

Not wanting to be accused of being stuck in the dark ages ourselves, the bar this year saw the introduction of some new lines, with the mind blowing Happy Daze Cider as well the more civilised Gin and Tonic.

As the Carnival finally drew to a close, it was nice to see that one thing never changes and has stood the test of time. It was of course 'The Egg Throwing Tournament' !!! Yet again, this event, was as popular as ever.

Creigiau 23 would like to thank everybody who helped and supported the Carnival and hope to see you next year.
