2012 Carnival Report

Creigiau Carnival 2012Creigiau Carnival 2012

As always Creigiau Carnival is a very eventful day and this was no exception. During the week leading up to the event the forecast was not good, but as the morning went on, it would appear that the men at the Met Office would get this one wrong with some blue skies making an appearance.

By 8 am the Rec was the usual hive of activity with our guys setting up the various stalls. In a finely planned operation all was ready by lunchtime and thoughts then turned to the procession which was starting to gather on Parc y Fro.

This year's theme of TV Commercials gave floats and fancy dress entrants ample scope to provide another colourful event.

The usual streets and organisation were there, together with the addition of Tregarth Court. Indeed their entry for a well known toilet paper was a sight to behold.

Not wishing to fall foul of the legal departments of various multinational companies, so will have to be careful not to refer to some of the brands and products represented. Simples !!!

The Terrace were again pushing the standard with their entry based on a famous bar of chocolate as were the Brownies with their version of You’ve been Tango’d . Other drinks are also available.

As well as the floats there were a number of entries in the fancy dress including a little and large advertising a well know directory enquiries company. More on that in aminute.

At the head of the procession the Samba Galles band were joined with a special guest, Sarah Pickard from Pentyrch Sarah was one of the privileged people to be selected to carry the Olympic torch, and was again carrying it. Although not lit this time.!!!

Carnival at the RecCarnival at the Rec

Once at the Rec, Tregarth Court were declared as the winning float, with Rhys Davies and Tom Burns the individual fancy dress winners.

Once the masses arrived at the Rec , our boys at the bar were soon into their stride with the keg cider introduced last year proving another big hick hit !!! For the more sophisticated customers, oh yes we do have one or two in Creigiau, there was a chilled Gin and Tonic.

The BBQ was again making brisk business with both barbeques running at full capacity all afternoon, however, at times the queue was quite long. We apologise for that, but it wouldn’t be Creigiau carnival without a queue at the BBQ!!

There was also a varied range of stalls with many appearing very busy. There is no doubt that there was something there for everyone, dogs included.

With the Carnival drawing to an end, there was the traditional Egg throwing competition and was again well supported.

By now the attendance was starting to dwindle and so it was down to our boys to dismantle the field and pack all away ready for next year !!!

Feel free to view our photo gallery.

Finally we would like to thank everyone for supporting the event, all members that volunteered and turned up at 6:30 am onwards, wives on the Cake stall and the Carnival Committee for their usual professionalism in organising the day.
