After last year’s incident packed event, the committee were determined that this year’s event didn’t go off with such a bang. !!!

So with all the planning done, the committee were up as early as 6 o’clock, for a long morning ahead, to set up possibly the biggest village event in the calendar.

It is right to give credit to the four individuals, that were injured in last year’s accident, for returning again this year, and getting stuck in, as ever.

Everything was running smoothly during the setting up of the day. The temptation to go home to watch the 2nd Lions test was unbearable for some individuals, but the men stayed there, and showed their commitment to the making the village carnival a success.

The setting up process is not something to rush, and checks with the committee that all stalls are in the right place means that work doesn’t need to be repeated.

It got to mid-day when things would start to warm-up at the rec.

But there was definitely a real buzz of excitement around at Parc y Fro where the floats were preparing to battle it out for that 1st place spot, and a place in Carnival history.

With the quality and effort that every float had put In, it was very hard to pick a winner, but that job went to Reverend Michael John.

In the end the Mighty Terrace went ahead to re-gain their title of best Carnival float with their theme of ‘Lemmings’ which suited the Carnival Theme ‘Video Games’ perfectly.

The individual fancy dress was won by ‘Monkey’ and was arguably the best mascot we had seen in the carnival fancy dress comp ever, well deserved winners.

With the awards given out, we could say the Carnival had finally started.

With the ever popular BBQ and Bar queues stretching for a mile, the 5-a-side football underway, and all stalls selling and promoting their products, the villagers were revelling in the sunshine, and soaking in the atmosphere. The Dog show was very entertaining, and 'The Nearly Wild Show' & 'Owls were very popular with animal lovers on the day.

Later in the afternoon Chairman Eurof Davies presented a cheque to Pentyrch RFC on behalf of Creigiau 23 for this year’s annual trip to Rodez. The rugby club travel down to France to take part in an International Tournament for junior Rugby. Pentyrch is the only team from Wales to take part in the tournament, and we’d like to wish them good luck for their tour.

The rest of the afternoon offered a lot of things to do for the sporty people of the village. Many people participated in the ‘Brian Moore’s Mouth Challenge’, the football shoot out, Creigiau Golf Club’s putting comp, and plenty of 5-a-side football matches on display.

The Endure Fitness stall held a very tough cardio challenge for those who dared. One of those happy to have a go was a PCSO on patrol that day. Watching him smash the records of previous contenders was hugely entertaining for those fitness fanatics out there!

As usual the day finished off with the annual egg throwing competition, where pairs would throw raw eggs back and forth with the gap increasing with every throw. With everyone covered in egg, and no egg cups awarded to any of the winners, this signalled the wrap up and end to another a fantastic carnival .

We have already acknowledged the early morning efforts of the Creigiau 23 members, but all of this couldn’t have happened without the hard work and commitment of all the Carnival Committee throughout the year,so well done them. Without the co-operation of these two village organizations, the carnival couldn’t have happened.

Finally, Creigiau 23 would like to thank our 'guest reporter', Tom Burns for writing the above article.
